Some stories are best told slowly — not because they are small, but because they are meaningful.

In Mafambisse, Zone G, one family’s journey reminds us why Care for Life exists in the first place. The Tenesse family didn’t experience change through a single moment or handout. Their transformation unfolded step by step — through steady work, shared learning, and the quiet power of believing that tomorrow could be different.

Luis: The Hands That Build More Than Homes

Luis is 35 years old and works as a bricklayer. His hands are strong, worn, and deeply familiar with hard work. Day after day, he builds and repairs homes across his community — helping families feel safer and more secure.

But through Care for Life’s savings and business training, Luis began building something else as well: a future.

He learned how to create a life plan, save for emergencies, and start a small home-based business selling essential goods like tomatoes, onions, salt, and dried fish. That modest shop now supports his family and serves neighbors who rely on it every day.

As Luis shared with our team:

“The program greatly helped my family to have a life plan and a vision for the future… to save money for emergencies and to do a small business at home. This work has greatly helped our community life.”

A life plan.
A vision for the future.
Hands that build more than homes.

Nercia: The Voice That Helps Others Believe

While Luis builds with his hands, his wife Nercia builds with her voice.

At just 30 years old, Nercia is raising four children while also serving as a community participation volunteer. She visits families who feel overwhelmed or discouraged, sharing the same principles she and her husband learned through Care for Life.

She listens.
She encourages.
She shows up.

Her message is simple, but powerful:

“It is possible to achieve our goals; we just need the opportunity to do so.”

Because of her, families who once felt alone now feel supported. Neighbors who were losing hope find the courage to keep going. Transformation spreads — not through big speeches, but through one woman consistently offering belief.

Her presence is a quiet thread, stitching the community together.

David: The Child Who Found His Voice

And then there’s David — the Tenesse family’s eldest child.

For years, David struggled to communicate. Speaking was difficult. Interacting with others felt overwhelming. His parents worried deeply, unsure how to help him move forward.

Through Care for Life’s Children’s Wellbeing classes, things began to change.

Slowly.
Gently.
Consistently.

David learned communication skills. His confidence grew. His voice emerged.

Today, David is 11 years old. He is in school, learning, participating, and progressing. He shares a fourth-grade classroom with his younger sister Luisa — not as a setback, but as a celebration.

Because he’s there.
He’s learning.
He’s growing.
He’s speaking.

And his family? They’re rising right alongside him.

A Family That Reflects the Bigger Picture

The Tenesse family’s story isn’t just about economic stability, education, or personal growth — it’s about partnership.

When families are equipped holistically — financially, emotionally, socially, and educationally — change lasts. It multiplies.

As Care for Life founder Cindy Packard says:

“When you change a family, you change a community — and when you change a community, you change the world.”

Luis, Nercia, David, and their children are living proof of that truth.

And their story is still unfolding.
